Clinical Formula

Carnitine

L-Carnitine is a skin-endogenous amino acid derivative synthesized from lysine and methionine. It plays a crucial role in cellular energy metabolism by facilitating β-oxidation, the process by which fatty acids are converted into energy.

Key benefits are:

  • Sebum Regulation: Facilitates the uptake of fatty acids into mitochondria, where they are converted into energy rather than sebum, effectively reducing excess sebum production.
  • Lipid Metabolism Activation: Enhances cellular β-oxidation (“fat burning”) and reduces intracellular lipid accumulation, contributing to a balanced skin environment.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid and L-ascorbic acid although these are actually different forms of the vitamin) is an essential nutrient to our overall health and the health of our skin.

Vitamin C is key to collagen synthesis in skin cells. As one of skin’s natural filler substances, collagen gives young skin its firm structure and even appearance but degrades over time. Much of this degradation is caused by free radicals which damage the cells that produce collagen. Vitamin C is also a powerful anti-oxidant and helps to protect skin from free radical damage.

The human body cannot produce Vitamin C itself and so relies on external sources, the most common of which are dietary sources such as citrus fruits. Vitamin C is also an effective ingredient in skincare where it strengthens and ultimately protects the epidermis, keeping skin looking radiant and fresh. One of its forms, L-ascorbic acid, is more active and more widely researched and proven as a skincare ingredient than others. Eucerin uses L-ascorbic acid in Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Vitamin C Booster. Another form of Vitamin C, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, is more suitable for a lip care product and is used in Eucerin Aquaphor SOS Lip Repair.

Licochalcone A

Licochalcone A is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant active that is derived from the roots of the Chinese licorice plant Glycyrrhiza inflata. Licochalcone A protects cells from oxidative stress mediated by UV and blue light (HEVIS).

Licochalcone A is able to activate anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and detoxifying enzymes. These enzymes protect the skin cells from damage induced by oxidative stress, like lipid peroxidation and DNA as wells as protein damage. Licochalcone A is able to soothe irritated skin and redness.

Glycyrrhetinic Acid

Glycyrrhetinic Acid is derived from the roots of the Chinese Licorice plant − Glycyrrhiza Glabra − and is known for its antioxidant and skin-soothing properties. It helps to protect the skin cells in the deeper epidermal layers from harmful UV-induced free radicals and supports skin´s own DNA repair mechanism.
